The secluded beach at Suan Son in the Province of Petchaburi on the Gulf of Thailand is uncrowded and so far, largely undiscovered by tourists, and has been described as one of the sandiest and most unspoilt in the area.
This uncrowded and palm-fringed beach lies just 10 kilometres south of Hua Hin and is under the control of the Royal Thai Army. This need not give any cause for alarm, as the area is open to the general public, is very safe, and the military keeps a very low profile. It was originally a retreat for veterans and soldiers and once the property of the Royal Forestry Department.
Golf at the Thai Royal Army Sports Centre
The new Course at the Royal Army Sports Centre is called the Sea Pine Army Golf Club II and is now more or less, fully operational. Playing on a mixture of Papsalum and Tifeagle grass, the par 72-course has four tee options and consists of four signature holes.
The remarkable Hole 12
One of the most remarkable holes on the course, and by common consensus, the most demanding, is the 600-yard-plus dogleg par 5 which is heavily protected by fairway bunkers and water hazards.
Hole 16
This 580-yard 16th is another par-5 dogleg with the attraction of a spectacular view of the ocean and the mountains. Considered a risk/reward hole.
Hole 17
This par-3 17th is deceptive and can become very demanding when the weather produces winds that are more than mild. The signature hole has a spectacular ocean-view background.
Hole 18
The most challenging par 4 on the course and the tee shot needs to carry over 220 yards across the hazard to reach the fairway.
